The Brussels populationAmong the three Belgian regions, the Brussels Region has the highest percentage of residents with a diploma of higher education. In all regions, one third of the population has little or no qualifications.

Methodology

The population’s educational attainment levels were calculated using the 25+ age group. To create the graph above, this population was divided into three educational attainment levels (low, medium, high)[1] for each place of residence (the Regions and Belgium):

an individual has a low level of education if he at most obtained a diploma of lower secondary education;

an individual has a medium level of education if he at most obtained a diploma of higher secondary education;

an individual has a high level of education if he at most obtained a diploma of higher education (university or non-university).
